Any Other Republicans Taking Our Own Advice Regarding Obama’s Election?
When Bush was elected, a good number of people in this country were upset, and many Republicans, including myself, rallied around him, and told all his opponents to “respect the position, if not the man”. In other words, you may not fully agree with him, but he is the President, so we need to respect him for that.
Now Obama gets elected, and I am afraid many Republicans are not taking our own advice. There WILL be good that comes of this presidency, I assure you. Yes, I voted for Obama, but I AM a Republican, I am just not blind enough where I am forced to vote along party lines every election.
We Republicans claim to be the “religious right”. Well, I don’t remember Christianity mentioning anywhere that the poor don’t deserve our help. Let’s embrace Obama’s ideas to help the poor, both financially and with universal health care for all. If you want to deny the poor these benefits to fatten your own pocketbook, just think “WWJD?”
Even as a Christian, I embrace equal civil rights for all Americans. Whether or not I agree with homosexual marriag eis irrelevant, my religion has no say-so in the laws of this country, so all Americans should have equal rights. Christians were wrong in opposing interracial marriage (see Loving v. Virginia), and they are wrong in opposing homosexual marriage. Just because it is legal does not mean we have to agree with it.
Although honestly I don’t think this is a very important issue (compared with others), and I don’t vote one way or the other on it, I still think that the outcome will be correct, and that makes me happy.
Also as a Christian I strongly oppose war, especially unnecessary war, which I feel this war was, so I support ending it ASAP. I also do not support the torture which I felt has happened at GITMO, whether we feel they deserved it or not.
One last thing, regarding abortion. i personally think it should be illegal, because I do not feel the fetus is part of a woman’s body (it is it’s own body), and therefore she should not be allowed to end its life. However, I am smart enough to know that “illegal” and “rare” may be mutually exclusive, as people can still get illegal abortions, and people can opt not to have one even if it is legal. So I STRONGLY support Barack’s plan to try to make abortions as RARE as possible, even if I do not agree with him that they should be legal.
So, fellow Republicans, are you taking your own advice? Are you respecting the position this man has been elected to, and look forward to whatever good may come of his presidency?
“We Republicans claim to be the ‘religious right’.”
Where did you get that idea? The “religious right” is a derisive term applied to Republicans by liberal Democrats, not a term Republicans coined to describe themselves.
I agree with much of what you say, particularly about gay marriage. Many people say homosexuality is a sin and they oppose it. And, of course, they oppose gay marriage. But if that opposition is based on the issue of “sin,” a ban on gay marriage is itself based on a religious belief that it is sinful. That seems to violate the doctrine of separation of church and state.
Whatever rights may be provided by a civil union, it is nonetheless a “second-class” marriage. It’s sort of like saying heterosexual couples can gets drivers’ licenses, but gay couples can only get learners’ permits. The one has more stature than the other.
How does the marital status of my gay neighbors hurt or affect me in any way?
I am a non religious son of a preacher fiscal conservative. I don’t care who you sleep with as long as it does not effect my money or tax dollars. I have personally stated that I will support Obama on the issues we agree on, and respectfully disagree on the issues we don’t.
Nice personal opinion rant. I now know more about you than I do about my Doctor, Dentist, and Accountant combined.
That was 90 seconds of my life I’ll never get back.
To answer your question. I respect the office. The man has to EARN my respect.
With Obama it isn’t about the man, it’s the policies and views that I completely disagree with and feel go against what makes this country great.
this is such a small sampling of people on Y!As of Republicans. Most are out working and being productive..not on here being controversial…Of course, I have free time so I can do what I want.
Absolutely!!
yaaaaawwwwwn
I have my own mind and can think for myself….I don’t need any advice..Thanks for offering.
kevin go write a book, your rant is annoying.
not at all
funny how you think you speak for all Republicans. Personally, I think your rant was just that. When Obummer does something to earn my respect, (which at this point, I highly doubt) then we’ll see. Until then, I’m entitled to my own opinion just as you are.
As you can see some of your fellow republicans don’t have remorse for the way that they have acted thus far. I would like to say thank you for sharing your thoughts. I feel we all need to get behind OUR newly elected president to help him as he drives our blessed country in new directions. We need this. We are now in the 21st century, not back in the 1900s. Let us all move together with hope and pride for our country.
