Why Do Some People Think That Seniors On Ss Should Not Qualify For Checks From The….?
…Economic Recovery Plan?? I payed taxes from the time I was sixteen til I was sixty-two. I still pay taxes on nearly everything I buy, including food. I have Medicare but my health care insurance premiums and prescription medicine co-pays cost my wife and I over $6,000 last year. Subtract that from what we get from SS and we’re below the poverty level. In my 46 years of work, I’ve never recieved a nickle from any type of entitlement program or unemployment insurance. If it’s going to create a big problem for our government to give those of us that are senior citizens a little help, they can keep my check. How many of you that harbor so much hate for the elderly would make that offer?

I have to attribute it to youth and ignorance. Let them walk a mile in your shoes and they’d change their tunes quick enough. Just wait till they see what happens to them when they get ready to retire.

I don’t think ANYONE should qualify for checks from the government. If they DO send checks they should represent a return of taxes we should not have paid in the first place. That would mean only people that actually paid taxes should get the checks.
i know what you mean,we should be the first to get it but that will not happen.since we are either retired or on disability the goverment thinks we do not need help.the amount that is given on ss is not enough to live on but our goverment does not care.
Fine! Let’s add some things to this bill, help in paying for medicare, social security increase, sales tax relief, heating oil relief,and anything else you can think of.
All that will get accomplished is get the whole thing vetoed and no one will get a dime!
I think maybe you are a little p*ssed more than really asking a question so I’ll have my say. Seniors who have worked most or all of their life should not pay any taxes after they retire. The government should put money aside (sort of like super) for this specific purpose. You have paid your way. It’s not like there isn’t young workers coming through the ranks.
Perhaps you should have invested your money better but if you filed a tax return on income not from SS then you should get a rebate. I do not think people who paid no taxes should get any and that includes myself because my small business has enough deductions to 0 out my income.
SS was supposed to supliment retirement not be the sole source of retirement income so sorry about all that and buy generic brand pills that should help.
