What Are My Chances Of Getting Into Cornell?

Cornell is my dream school. I’m a junior in high school, but I know that Cornell is the school for me. I want to major in Human Biology, Health, and Society, minor in Spanish, and complete the pre-med track. I’ll be applying early decision in the fall of my senior year. What are my chances of getting in based on the following credentials?
1. GPA: weighted = ~4.3 unweighted = ~3.5
2. Courses: All honors and 6 APs by the end of my high school career [Bio, U.S., Chem, Calculus, Literature, English Composition]
3. Ethnicity/Gender = African American female
4. ECs = Health Careers Club, Varsity Winter & Spring Track, Seekers Bible Study, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, 4-H
5. Community Service = Tutoring Center, Nursing Home, Liberty Science Center [museum], First Aid Squad (Volunteer EMT)
6.Honors/Awards = Congressional Award, Honor Societies (National, National English, Spanish, Math, Science) President’s Volunteer Service Award, Prudential Spirit of Community Award
7. SAT = ~1800 [yes, this is pretty low] SAT II = N/A AP = N/A
8. Employment = Started own business teaching music theory and piano to children at a local Boys & Girls Club, Student Researcher (NIDDK/NIH)
9. Hook(s) = My essay, Congressional Award, Leadership Roles
Based on my stats. so far, would you consider me ‘Cornell’ material? Are there any suggestions for things I could add or remove from these stats?

  1. yay, another humecie!!! i’m in human ecology, but i’m a human development major.
everything looks good except for that unweighted gpa and those SATs. retake the SATs and aim for 2100+, especially if you want to be pre-med. you should also take SAT IIs in chem, bio, and one social science or foreign language so that you can prove that you know your stuff. your essays will be really important, so make sure you really focus on those. being a urm will help you.

  2. OMGOSH! You sound just like my ansi overachieving sister!!! LOL I think your chances are pretty good.

  3. Cornell – admission selectivity rating of 98; 88% of freshman class in top 10% of their high school class; SAT Math average 670-770, Critical Reading 630-730; ACT average 29-33; 21% of applicants are accepted.
All colleges look at your academic resume for GPA, class rank, courses taken (AP, Honors), SAT/ACT scores, extracurricular activities, internships/volunteer work, work experience, personal statement, teacher recommendations and college interview. They like to see leadership/founding of 2-3 clubs over membership in 10.
    Good luck!
