Is My Dad Emotionally Abusive And What Can I Do?

My step brother and I live with our dad – long story, but he had enough money to take care of the details a long time a go. We both see our moms, but live with out dad. However, he definitely prefers my step brother because he is smart and a boy. I have health problems and he cusses at me, tells me that I’ll never amount to anything but working at Walmart, that he won’t pay for college, that I’m a ***** and that he hates me. Sometimes he tells me that I’m not his daughter and he doesn’t want me anymore. I am a senior in high school and will be 18 in January, but I’ve had some major health problems. I also feel intimidated to stand up to him. Any suggestions? It’s hard to just walk away. this is my dad and I feel like he loves me…

  1. Idk. Those are some pretty harsh things to say to a kid, i would stand up to him and say they way you disrespect me is uncalled for and say I never done anything to hurt you so why treat me like crap. He could also be acting like that be you have health issues, but i am no expert. I suggest you talk to someone and seek help not that there is something wrong with you, but so you can get a professional opinion on what to do. :] Hope this helps. I wish you much luck I really do, and I am sure you will amount to be something great in life. One more thing just stay positive.

Your dad should treat both you and your brother equally. Even is he’s not your blood brother but step brother, He’s part of the family.
Your Dad is not setting a good example for both of you.
My advice is: Confront you father, and tell him to treat you equally as your brother, and tell him how you feel being left out. Maybe he hasn’t realized it,.

  3. God! You have a real big problem there. Have you tried talking to your brother about it? What does he think? I believe that what your father is doing is extremely wrong, and actually he can be arrested for it. I suggest either you stand up to him, or talk to the authorities. You deserve opportunities in life, and he is not giving them to you.

  4. Wow! He’s a fool and you better tell your mom or someone at your school and get a counciler. Your better off getting away from him.
