Do You Know Any Senior Citizen That Has Participated In The National Senior Olympics?
The 2009 Summer National Senior Games will be held August 1st thru the 15th at Stanford University and the San Francisco Bay area. It is one of the world’s largest festival sporting events.
10,000 athletes ages 50 and over will compete in 25 Olympic and traditional sports. 30,000 visitors from across the U.S. will attend and watch.
If I was in good physical health I would love to participate.
Yes, Yes Yes!!!
In 2007, I began the year with a 3-month stint of Shingles! Painful. Just as the shingles subsided, I got spinal stenosis and sciatica. The doc gave me a walker with a seat. A pain doctor suggested that I begin swimming. Within a short time, I went from the sit-down walker, to a walker, to a cane, to a homo-sapien walking straight and tall! As of validation of my new re-commitment to life, I decided to enter the 2007 Senior Olympics.
I still use the name Tilly the Turtle, but honey, it feels so good to be in the pool — once you get over the fact that the water is wet, sometimes cold, and did I mention that your body has to get wet! br-r-r-r-r-r
In 2007, I earned two gold medals and one silver. The gold medal went to a sweet lady who was in the 2006 National Olympics! She also broke some records.
I am now taking a swim clinic with 4 talented swimmers under the age of 11, one 16-year old future SEAL, and a lady who will be at the Standford National Olympics! Tilly doesn’t even jump into the pool! She waddles her full figured body down the steps that are in the wall!
I don’t think I will make the National Olympics but I truly enjoy doing the State Olympics.. Contact me if you would like more info. They don’t want the fastest swimmers. The Senior Olympics foster fitness, friendship, and fellowship. I should also add the the oldest swimmer is 95 and she usually does the 500 mile freestyle. That will be me some day.
Other competitions are walking, running, bowling, shuffleboard, ping pong(?) archery, equestrian (?). Check on the Internet for your state,
i.e., Virginia State Olympics. Go Get ‘em Girl! We are made of hot stuff! (Can you just hear Donna Summers?)
A few, but if they ever have Roller Skating I will be there, you can bet on it.
Sorry, but no.
