A. Age – 61
B. Gender – M
1. How do you remember your teenage years? Probably better than they were. I have learned a lot and see things differently now. I always thought I was so cool – I wasn’t.
2. When you were a teen, what age did you consider old? 30’s and 40’s.
3. Did you know your grandparents? What do you remember about them? I only knew one grandmother. I didn’t appreciate her or treat her with much respect. She was a kind, sweet lady, but I didn’t understand that until after she had passed on and I matured.
4. What are the 3 greatest pleasures at this stage in your life? My family (I have a wonderful wife and a 14-year-old). I like who I have become. I am now able to buy pretty much whatever I want.
5. What are the 3 greatest hardships at this stage in your life? I am physically starting to decline. I understand mortality. My money is running out faster that I hoped and planned.
6. What is the key to good health? Doing what one should do and taking care of oneself.
7. In general, does our society respect or ignore seniors? I am still quite active and vital, so I am still respected. In general, our country doesn’t respect its seniors.
8. What is the biggest issue facing most seniors? Affordable health care.
9. How could you have better prepared for this stage of your life? Paid much more attention to the future and planned better.
10. What advice would you give young people today? Truth and honor above all. Know you are mortal, and you have to plan for your own future. I was a teacher for 31 years and gave advice all the time. I don’t think most kids understand the words until they are further along the journey. Learn what’s really important (it isn’t the brands you wear, tattoos, or piercings). There is really so much, which is the book I hope to write.
*additional comments? I hope I helped a bit.
