Ideas To Mask The Taste Of Liquid Medicine?
My two year old is on a five day course of Sulfa Trimeth. I had the pharmacy make it strawberry flavored since it tastes very bitter. It’s still disgusting, I don’t know if I could choke it down and I’m an adult.
I mixed it with a really strong tasting fruit juice and that cut down on the bitterness but I have to put in a lot of juice to disguise it. She will only drink it in small sips because she can still taste the medicine. She didn’t see me put the medicine in and I told her that it’s her older brother’s juice (she LOVES anything that has to do with him). She is asking for chocolate milk but I told her she has to drink the juice first. At this rate, by the time she gets the juice down it will be time for her night time dose!
Any suggestions would be great!
Give it to her straight and tell her to hold her nose while she swallows it. Believe it or not it will disguise the taste of yucky stuff like that and then have the drink she wants nearby for her to grab and drink right afterwards. By the time she swallows it and lets go of her nose there won’t be much of the ick taste left in her mouth.
If that doesn’t work then call the pediatrician and tell them she has it flavored but still can’t get it down because of the medicine taste it still has. Ask if there is another form that it comes in that you can get it to her or if they have any suggestions about hiding it in something. Sometimes applesauce works or orange juice.
Will she let you squirt it into her mouth? Us a syringe and aim for the back and to the side, then let her have what ever she wants to drink. Maybe get the brother to encourage her to take it. If the medicine is colored use food dye and water to “give” it too the brother first and then it’s her turn for the real deal.
i have the same problem with my daughter a few things u can try is to mix it with a drink or even try putting in pudding applesauce or anything like that but make sure its soemthing that ur child will want to eat or drink all of.
gulp it down wihout touching it to ur tongue….. make the liquid fall deep into ur throat…that way ur taste buds dont touch the liwuid n u never taste it
