My Mother Has Been Smoking For 50 Years, Can I Expect Her To Get Cancer For Sure?
I know it’s a horrible thought, but what are the chances she will get lung cancer. Or does it really not matter, is it in the gene pool not necessarily depending on smoking? I always worry about it so much. I just wish she would quit.
Not all smokers get cancer, just as not all non-smokers are safe.
Smoking increases the likelihood of you developing a range of illnesses including cancer.
The longer you smoke, the bigger the risk.
If she has been smoking for 50 years, it is unlikely that you will need to make plans for her 100th birthday, but some smokers have reached that age!
Nothing in life is certain.
50 years is a very long time and her lungs are damaged for sure and the possibility of being diagnosed with lung cancer, copd and chronic bronchitis are very high. She must be examined by her doctor and have checkups frequently. It would be difficult after that long to quit but it could be done if she really wants to do so. Even if she does the damage is already done. Smoking causes most lung cancers and other serious problems.
ur worry is meaningless. though statutorily, smoking is injurious to health, certain wonderful constitutions, like ur mother’s, are immune to statutory warnings.
be happy. ur mummy shall last full 100 years, with smoking too.
Smoking is a horrible habit and I hope that you learned from your mom not to do it. Smoking attacks all parts of your body. While your mother may not get lung cancer, she probably will get some kind of cancer. Sorry.
my grandmother died at 85 because of pleural effusion. she is smoking when she was younger but quit a long time ago. even though she quit, the consequence is still there. your mother is really strong 50 years is like a dream to me!!lol
Cancer is a crazy thing, and just because one smokes, does not guarantee that they will get cancer. I know many people who have smoked their whole lives, and died not because of cancer.
I’m with tarkarri’s post 100%!
My dad smoked for over 40 years and his lungs now at 70 are clear…He quit years ago!
My brother smoked only a few years and he died from lung cancer!
nothing is for sure in this life!
