I’ve Missed Three Years Of School Due To Severe Cancer, Is It Possible To Be Able To Get In High School?

I’ve missed all three years of middle school and now the cancer is gone (maybe just temporarily, but it’s gone for now at least) and I really want to go to school this year. We can’t afford a tutor. Is it possible for me to be put in high school even if I’ve missed the past three years of school?
Could I do it if I studied math all summer?
Please, any information, opinions, encouragement and tips are GREATLY appreciated. I do not want to be three years behind just because of this disease.

  1. Unless you can test at a high school level, you are probably not going to be able to enter into high school. Have you talked with your parents about this? Your family should probably have a meeting with the school and/or district and figure out what your options are. Were you able to complete any of the missed three years through a home-bound program? I am so sorry for your circumstances and I wish you the best. Talk to the the school district and see what their recommendations are. Obviously, it would be very difficult for you to be with classmates three years younger than you are. Maybe they have had this situation before and can help solve the problem. Good luck!

It is so awesome that you are ready to go back. You sound like a motivated person.
I would ask your parents to contact the school and see if there is something to be done. It is wonderful for you to want to go back to school and i am sure you want to be among your peers as well and have as normal of a life as possible. I would think the school will do what they can to help you if at all possible.
Best of luck to you and it is great that you are doing well.

  3. you can’t just jump into highschool.. you just missed the past 3 most important years..

  4. First of all i would like to say well done for fighting the cancer.
Second of all you wouldn’t miss out on education because of your cancer.
If you went back to school, providing your parents, you and your doctors were sure your well enough to go to school.
You would be put in the bottom sets in lessons so you can get extra help in lessons.
