Is It True That Putting Plastic Things In The Microwave Or The Freezer Can Give You Cancer?

I got an e-mail saying that when you change the consistency of the object the chemical can get into the food or drink.
I wanted to freeze a waterbottle overnight for school tomororw…can that harm me?

  1. I’ve been playing soccer for 14 years of my 18 year long life. I have frozen countless waterbottles, gatorades and anyother thing overnight in order for it to stay cold all game long. I think it is safe to say that people are just being ridiculous nowadays saying this or that gives you cancer so I came up with my own philosophy…. Being alive gives you cancer.
    DRINK AND FREEZE AWAY!!!!!!!!
I sure as hell am not gonna stop freezing my drinks. Plus, think about this. You have to freeze meat otherwise it goes bad, you have to freeze ice cream and popscicles, you have to freeze vegetables…. if that e-mail you recieved were true you would have had cancer a long time ago….. not only you but the rest of the world.

  2. yes

  3. In my honest opinion microwaves are seriously under rated in terms of the damage it can do.
They always say, “if its to good to be true then it probably is”, you see the thing is you put packed food in for a couple of minutes and you instantly get a meal ready to eat.
I usually go by the idea of what ever you can do in nature is healthy… pretty much anything i can think of…like lighting a fire, growing vegetables, picking fruits of trees is a good and healthy instance.
I have a questions to ask..How many microwaves have you seen in nature? none because they are no good for us.
So therefore they arent going to be doing our food any good either.

  4. OK ! here is the thing with the microwave there is no more danger in using the dang thing then going to the doctor and getting an x-ray or getting a mamogram it all gives off radiations so the cancer thing is just something a scientist came up with to continue his funding.

  5. Anything and Everything you do can give you cancer. For that matter you already have it. It is just dormant. If we continue to worry about everything that supposedly gives us cancer we will die from starvation and thirst.

  6. yes , mouth cancer

  7. Go to askdrmao.com and you’ll read about all this. You can also ask him questions. He’s the one who I got information about the dangerous plastic+microwave combination, but I wouldn’t know how to explain it to you using the right words. Good luck!

  8. I have seen that email…and it is true that there are chemicals in plastic bottles that can be harmful if reused and rewashed over time.
BUT can you really worry…if anyone gets cancer…its rare to pinpoint it to one little thing (other than smoke/sun) they also say that artificial sugar causes cancer…and this and that…
dont pay attention to those forwards…they are silly…you will be fine…just stay smoke free and wear sunscreen…

  9. Never put plastic in the microwave unless it specifically says microwave safe, including covering food with surane wrap. Properties in the plastic can migrate from the plastic to your food which over time could cause cancer. It is not very likely but it is possible. I am a packaging engineer and studied all about this. On the other side, everything gives you cancer so i wouldn’t worry about the small stuff

  10. No, it is false.http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/coo…

  11. I don’t think it’s possible to get cancer by placing plastic things in either the microwave or the freezer. Now days, they tell you that everything causes cancer. I personally, don’t put plastics in the microwave, simply because it may make your food taste bad. I definitely do not put styrofoam in the microwave because it melts so easily. I hope this answers your question.

  12. I’d be curious as to where you got that email from. From a friend? Or Some sort of unsolicited junk mail? Or from a reliable source? Some plastics should’t be used in the microwave, but I’ve never heard of freezing water giving anyone cancer. Re-using water bottles isn’t the best thing to do, but yet again… it’s not a cancer risk. Freeze your water and enjoy!

  13. When plastic was invented, man thought that he conquered. But today recycling of plastic has been a problem and poses a big threat to health. Researchers have no ends.

  14. Here is the link to the American Cancer Society that addresses this question. Hope it helps you.http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MED/conten…
