If You Have A History Of Cancer In Your Family Can You Still Take The Birthcontrol Shots?

They say if you have a history of cancer in your family , that you shouldn’t take the birth control pill. Im just wondering if it is the same with the shots. I want to get on birthcontrol and since I can’t take the pill, the birthcontrol shots are my only other option.

  1. For starters, you should always discuss birth control options with your doctor. If you do have a family history of cancer, there are options available to you depending on the type of cancer, etc.
Some of the injection birth control systems use similar drugs to the pills, so those would probably be out, but there are other injectables that use alternate drugs. Other things to consider are IUD’s, Subdermal implants, etc.
your dr or closest planned parenthood can help you decide what will work best for you.
Regardless of the pill or not, I strongly encourage the use of condoms for disease control reasons. Remember, you’re not just having sex with the person you’re with, you’re essentially having sex with everyone they’ve had sex with.
