Count me as one, who else?
I’d love to hear the short version of your story if you wish to share.

Well, these days with our long lives, we probably all will be cancer survivors to some degree or another. I had a basal cell carcinoma removed and I hardly feel like a survivor. I needed to let it go for another year or two before it would have been deadly.
Tomorrow I will have my mammogram to find out if I’m a five year survivor of breast cancer!! Short version–had a horrific gallbladder attack, had it removed after a month of antibiotics. My surgeon was apparently on a personal quest to erradicate breast cancer and told me I would not be released until I had a mammogram. I did it to appease her–and lo and behold!!! God Bless her!! I had a partial mastectomy, lymph node dissection, radiation, etc., etc., etc. And so–if tomorrow comes out wonderful I will be 5 years clear of cancer. By the way–had I not had the mammogram–I never would have felt the lump–it would have gone thru the chest wall into the lungs–small cancer deep behind the nipple. She always refers to me as her “poster child” for mammograms!!!
Hi there. I’m an almost 3-year breast cancer survivor. I got BC at age 39; had a double mastectomy with biopsy-proven cancer on the right and two other pre-cancerous lesions on the left. So having a double mastectomy was the right option for me.
I did go onto have four rounds of chemotherapy and have been “cancer-free” since. (knock on wood I guess).
Right after my surgery, actually about a month, I lost my dad unexpectedly. My son then was sent to Iraq within six months of my surgery, right before my 40th b-day.
Luckily and of course thankfully, I’m done with chemo and have been doing well. I had a bout of pneumonia and was in the hospital for a couple of weeks. Ended up having a pericardial window to lessen fluid around my heart. The doc though for sure my cancer was back but it wasn’t!
I’ve had some trials and tribulations since, but am back on track to health. Oh and by the way, my son is home safe and sound now on US soil. Thank goodness!
I’ve met some amazing survivors throughout my diagnosis and recovery. I’m really thankful for these new friends and support.
Okay my short story is getting way too long. Sorry.
i had a level-2 melanoma cut out 25 years ago.
It was on top of my ankle, where there is v. little skin to stretch over. But doctor in Denver did a good job. Scar is hardly visible, though several inches long.
I think it grew because a very heavy car door blew shut and slammed on the foot I had left hanging out while I reached across to far seat to get something.
Was providential that I mentioned it to doctor at end of visit for something else.
He was quite struck when he saw it, asked how long it had been there. I wasn’t sure, a few months.
It was black and had sharp angles, smaller than my little fingernail. Biopsy, then surgery, quite rapidly, and no walking cast.
Try setting the table while you are using crutches.
I wear Solumbra and sunblock, carry a parasol, broad-brimmed hats. Though I have slacked off in last few years. Thanks for reminding me!
I had stage 2 breast cancer in my right breast with 6 tumors. They were hormone receptor negative. I had a modified radical double mastectomy and tram flap reconstruction, followed by chemo. There were two positive out of 15 lymph nodes.
That was in 1999. The most amazing thing is that I had had fertility problems before my cancer diagnosis and could not carry a baby to term. Sometime during my chemo (or perhaps just after) I got pregnant, and in 2000 I delivered a healthy and beautiful girl. I even did it naturally (no c-section).
If that’s your actual picture, you are super hot ! Yeah, I guess I kinda count. I had 37 radiation treatments and 8 weeks of Chemo, and I think I’m in remission. I have Mucuepidermoid Carcinoma of the Minor Salivary Gland.. And you? Diagnosed in 03, still cancer free, in ‘08 (far as I know!)- can’t afford my pet-scan this year! The tx doesn’t stand for Texas does it?
I survived uterine cancer also, about 14 years ago. It was a scary thing for me but, I knew b-4 the Dr. told me, I had a gut feeling. I’d had lots of female problems I kept yeast infections, The cramps from my period were almost worse than giving birth to my 2 boys. I knew something was bad wrong and Dr’s. would say you got a yeast infection you’ll be fine. My pap smears were comming back abnormal and the Dr. would say it’s because of the yeast infection. So I found me a very good woman GYN the 1st visit she did a uterine scraping, went back for my results and that is when she told me I had cancer. It was not a pleaseant recovery but made it through with the help of family and God. That’s not the worst thing I have been through though Oct. 16th 2007 I was at work. I am a Phlebotomist….I was feeling just a little strange and passed it off. I had just got done drawing blood from my Dad and Step Mom of all people. I got real weak, almost passed out, extremly nauseated and had the most undescribable head ache I have ever had in my life. Tell me the Lord don’t work in mysterious ways just think my Dad and Step mom there at this precise time…..I made my dad take me home and I would not go to the ER and I thought I was dying and I thought if I could just lay down maybe this is something I can sleep off and wake up and feel better. Duh, how dumb was I. I slept for awhile and my Dad kept calling and waking me up to check on me. I thought Lord leave me alone and just let me sleep. I’d say him waking me up probably kept me alive. How stupid can I be and I’ve been in the Medical field for 20 yrs. My Dad called my boyfriend @ work and told him to check on me and before he got to the house I had to go pee and got so sick @ my stomach trying to throw up but was dry heaving and I thought my head was going to explode. Well when he got there I was on the pot and had a trash can in front of me trying to throw up. I was so weak I could not stand up I felt like I was going to pass out again. He had to help me up off the pot and pull up my pants for me, I was lifeless. He carried me to the car and I was protesting the whole way…I don’t want to go to the hospital I’d say and he said well tough u are going and off we went. We got there and they had to get a wheel chair and roll me in 2 the ER @ this point I didn’t care. I thought I’ll be here 4-ever) you know how it is @ the ER. He told them a little about my situation they asked me a few questions and I tried to answer them as best I could. I could not hardly talk and I felt like I was in La La Land. My concentration and thought process would come and go. The nurse jumped up and said I’ll be right back, she came right back and looked @ us and said follow me. I thought well that was quick…not realizing something was seriously wrong because I was not thinking right. Any other time I would of flipped out and said Oh God what’s wrong. The Dr. came straight in and asked a few questions and sent me to have a test that I still don’t remember having. The results came back and the Doctor sat down beside me and said I got your results back and you have a Brain Anuerysm. You talk about shocked….I was numb and I felt like it wasn’t real that I was in a dream. I remember I looked @ my poor boyfriend and said that’s it..it’s over I’m going to die. They air lifted me to a Hospial that is about 1 1/2 hours away and I had Brain surgery. I’m having a very hard time recovering lots of issues. I’ll make it though. God spared my life and I am so thankful to him. He is so merciful and gracious. Sorry I’ve went on and on….besides that U asked about cancer and I told U about brain surgery. Hope I didn’t bore U to much. You said a short version…oh my I wrote U a book.
