How Can My Italian Oncologist Friend Get Equivalency To Work As An Oncologist (cancer Doctor) In The Uk?

Again, it’s in the title. My friend has worked as a fully qualified cancer specialist in Italy (she is Italian) for about 10 years, and wishes to know how she goes about getting equivalency for doing the same work in UK hospitals. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  1. Under the freedom of movement of workers regulations in the EU, your friend can move here and start practicing. Just like that! She needs to register her degree and training with the GMC (General Medical Council) http://www.gmc-uk.org/ and get placed on the specialists register. She’ll need to take the documents from Italy that prove she has a medical degree and has completed specialty training in Italy, but it really is that simple.
Because she’s from the EU with an EU degree and training she would have an unrestricted license from day one.
Good luck to her and you! :-)
PS: In all honesty, she could pick up the UK papers and start applying for jobs today!
