I don’t tan at all and I use sunscreen. I am a vegetarian.

Ignore the other answers. Avoid overexposure to sun (10-15 minutes per day is good as it provides needed Vit. D).
Avoid excessive alcohol (some would say any …).
Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke.
Make sure that your house is free of radon.
Don’t work at a nuclear power facility, on a nuclear sub, or mining uranium.
Try to eat a diet as full or fruits and veggies and as devoid of heavily processed foods as you can.
Most important of all … hope you get lucky. Because you can do everything right for most of your life and still sit across from a doctor one day to hear the words, “it’s cancer.”
1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will hear those words in their lifetime.
So … enjoy life while you have youth and health. Don’t worry about cancer. If it happens, it happens, and you will deal with it at that time.
Don’t smoke, don’t drink (apart from a bit of red wine), don’t live in areas surrounded by power towers, excessive power lines or polution, don’t use chemical cocktails – in your food, your cosmetics and perfumes – try to eat organic foods if you can.
Your diet needs to be balanced, you need the right amount of ‘good’ oils such as olive oil cooked on a low heat, omega 3 from NON FARMED oily fish. But you also need a small amount of saturated fat too, found in dairy and red meat typically. AVOID MOST VEGETABLE AND SEED OILS, they are often full of trans fat which causes ageing and other degenerative diseases including cancer. DON’T USE A MICROWAVE. They vibrate the particles in the food causing a complete change in structure of the food, which can cause a change in YOUR cellular structures which could lead to cancer. DON’T EAT FACTORY FARMED ANIMALS. They live horrific lives and are very unhealthy animals, and you are what you eat. But you probably know this because you’re vegetarian, so am I. Just make sure to eat some dairy, avocado, nuts & seeds and other good oils for the fats you need. It’s harder to get the right ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 when you’re a complete vegetarian but it can be done if you work at it. It can also be harder to get some of the B vitamins, but if you research that you can find out what kind of foods you need to eat more of.
Get some sunlight on your skin and through your eyes every day, but make sure to wear sunglasses and sunscreen/cover up the rest of the time. You need some sun for vitamin D and other benefits but in excess the sun can obviously cause skin cancer, along with wrinkles etc. It’s good that you don’t tan, it’s the worst thing you can do.
Apart from that just try and live a bit more naturally, avoid being around electronics 24/7 (really hard!), and eat organic fresh foods, a wide variety of different vegetables especially because they contain so many vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other imporatnt cancer-fighting phytochemicals. Eat right and don’t stress!
Keep your weight down, and remove all oils or most of them, except olive oil.
You don’t have to avoid meat, just fatty meats. There is nothing the matter with chicken or turkey, and wild salmon.
Some cancers tend to run in families… bowel cancer, and breast and reproductive cancer in women. For sure follow recommendations by the Am. Cancer. Soc. for your checkups.
Interestingly, women who take bc pills have less ovarian cancers, and women who have had their first child before age 30, as well, have fewer reproductive cancers.
There are tons of things out there to read… google it.
But understand, that if you die of nothing else, you will indeed die of a cancer, or have it as you die of something else. There are just so many times cells can divide…. Google telemeres.
As crazy as it may sound I would stay away from anything that could obviously cause cancer, such as cigarettes, as well as pharmaceutical drugs. The only reason I say this is because the cancer rate has gone up in both men and women since so many new pharmaceutical drugs came out. I wish I could give you the source where I found the video, but my boyfriend found it and showed me. I do know, however, that hemp oil can heal most cancers. So if you or anyone you know has or gets cancer I would strongly recommend giving it a try. I understand it is illegal, but it isn’t in Amsterdam or just be careful when using it here. I watched a documentary where a guy had three cancer spots and by using hemp oil was able to get rid of it within a matter of days. Where is dad was terminally ill and was cancer free in a matter of months by simply eating hemp oil twice a day about the size of a pea. If anything it can’t hurt you, unlike radiation which kills more people than it saves….hope I helped at least a little

being a vegetarian helps, but doesnt completely remove the risk of cancer. Make sure everything or at least most of what you eat is organic. It costs more, but hey, so does meat.
